Triple major in Physics, Astronomy, and Earth & Space Sciences.
Tell Me More: I want to pursue work in the planetary sciences field which is quite large. I’m interested in planetary resources and asteroid mining. That includes instrumentation, satellite development, robotics, data processing, etc. I plan to also get my PhD, which will give me more autonomy in my career.
Why Space? I grew up poor, but my parents were in low level medical field positions, so I learned a lot of biology from them. I always wanted chemistry sets for my birthdays and used candy chemistry sets to play chemist. At first I thought with a STEM degree you could only be a doctor, but high school physics changed my perspective on that. I’ve always loved science.
Why I March For Science: I marched to get people to hear something they hadn’t heard before. Modern inequities aren’t the result of modern people, but of our history. I want people to be aware of the impact of science on our every day lives. Science needs to be destigmatized and made more accessible to everyone. Thirty years from now we may be able to take photos of Alpha Centauri from space, and thirty years from now I’ll still be fighting for racial equality.
